Caring for Figurines
Limited edition figurines hold very special memories and can bring many years of enjoyment to their owners, friends and loved ones. As with any item of value, figurines require proper care and attention to ensure the preservation of their original beauty, detail, color and value. Here are some simple guidelines and specific tips to keep your pieces in the best condition for many years.
Original boxes
Keeping the original box helps you store and properly transport your figurine. It often enhances the marketability of your limited edition piece if you choose to sell it on the secondary market. Keep in mind as you add more pieces to your collection, you inevitably add more boxes, and space becomes an issue. Many boxes can be folded flat for easier storage and then placed in dry areas in waterproofs containers.
Avoid displaying in sunlight
Always keep your figurines out of direct sunlight. The sun’s rays are harsh and can be made harmful to the coloring and detail of any piece. Also avoid displaying near heat; may cause distortion.
Keep your figurines safe and sound
Make sure all your displays are well constructed and very sturdy. Avoid placing a figurine near the edge of shelf or table. Get reinforced glass for glass shelves if your pieces are heavy. Collectors living in areas prone to earthquakes can consider products such as putty or wax to securely fasten the figurines into place.
Figurines
Figurines often need more cleaning due to the details and crevices. To clean, gently dust with a feather duster or small shaving brush. Never immerse the resin figurines in water, instead use a damp cloth dipped in clear water. No chemicals should be used on the figurines, it may harm the paint or finish.
Ornaments
Even though many consumers only bring out their ornaments at Christmas, more people are displaying them all year. If you choose to put them away each year, the best way is to store them in their original boxes. If the original box cannot be located, wrap ornaments in acid-free paper for the best protection. Ornaments can then be stored in boxes with divided compartments or stackable rubber tray containers lined with bubble wrap. Ornaments should never be stored in an attic or basement where water, humidity or extreme temperatures exist.
